School curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and also includes PSHE, French, Spanish, German. Thursday afternoon carousel of Outdoor Education, Farm and Equestrian, and Performing Arts for Years 3 to 6.School operates its own outdoor/woodland education programme ('Forest Schools (KS1) or Outdoor Education (KS2))' and every prep class has a weekly lesson at the working farm for lessons in growing vegetables and animal husbandry. 'During the Summer Term, Years 1 – 6 participate in a multi activity camp sleeping under canvas. For years 1 & 2 this is for one night on the school sports fields, and for the older students this is for two nights in the Peak District National Park.' 'Every October for 2 days the whole prep school goes hill walking in various local areas, staying overnight in local bunkhouses'. 'From Reception class up all pupils have timetabled hands on time on the Farm, working with the animals and undertaking practical and useful tasks.' The school offers each pupil between 5 and 10 different extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs.
Specialist teachers for sport and languages throughout, for computing, music, dance and drama from Year 3, and for science from Year 5.
The school has a highly developed outdoor education programme which includes; timetabled sessions on the Working Farm for all, a two day October Peak District hike for all, and a Summer Term outdoor adventure residential camp for Years 1 to 6.
School offers over 15 different sports through the year, including equestrian, through both the curriculum and extra-curriculum. Representative teams in major sports from Year 3. In recent years the school has enjoyed national success in orienteering.
Art, music, and performing arts (dance and drama) are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. Dance taught to the highest standard (Alkins School of Dance). All pupils learn an instrument in class and half take extra-curricular instrument lessons from Year 3. Three choirs, orchestra and several instrument ensembles. The school offers each pupil between 5 and 10 different extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.
Wraparound care from 7.30am to 5.30pm. Buses leave at 5.10pm.
