Abbotsholme Prep School is an independent prep day and boarding school for boys and girls (50%/50%) between the ages of 2 and 11 years. Boarding from Year 6 for the very small number of pupils who board. 40% are full boarders and 60% are weekly or flexi boarders. The school has a non-selective admissions policy. It is the prep school to Abbotsholme School, an all-through school to age 18, and a member of Achieve Education. Abbotsholme Prep School fees range from £3,252 (Rec) to £5,297 per term (2025/26). Full boarding fees are £11,154 per term. Fees include VAT but exclude lunches.

The Abbotsholme Prep School curriculum

School curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and also includes PSHE, French, Spanish, German. Thursday afternoon carousel of Outdoor Education, Farm and Equestrian, and Performing Arts for Years 3 to 6. The school offers each pupil between 5 and 10 different extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs.

There are regular educational trips for all year groups, visiting speakers, camp outs on the school fields for Years 1 and 2, and residential trips from Year 3. The school’s outdoor/woodland education programme includes Forest Schools to Year 2, a weekly lesson at the working farm for all year groups, and hill walking trips from Year 3. The school is a member of the Round Square association of schools.

Specialist teaching

Specialist teachers for sport and languages throughout, for computing, music, dance and drama from Year 3, and for science from Year 5.

Sport at Abbotsholme Prep School

School offers over 15 different sports through the year, including equestrian, through both the curriculum and extra-curriculum. Representative teams in major sports from Year 3. In recent years the school has enjoyed national success in orienteering.

The Arts at Abbotsholme Prep School

Art, music, and performing arts (dance and drama) are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. Dance taught to the highest standard (Alkins School of Dance). All pupils learn an instrument in class and half take extra-curricular instrument lessons from Year 3. Three choirs, orchestra and several instrument ensembles. There are some extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.

Wraparound care

Wraparound care from 7.30am to 5.30pm. Buses leave at 5.10pm.
