The Gateway School curriculum

School curriculum is based on the National Curriculum with some additions and variations. It also includes PSHE, reasoning, critical thinking, current affairs, French. An additional carousel of language/cultural studies from Year 3 includes Japanese (Year 3), Spanish (Year 4), German (Years 5 & 6). The school offers each pupil between 5 and 10 different extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs.

There are regular educational trips for all year groups, visiting speakers, Forest School to Year 2 and residential trips from Year 5. Farm School is a focus for day trips for all year groups.

Specialist teaching

Specialist teachers for sport, music, languages, art and computing throughout, for drama from Year 3, and for all subjects from Year 5.

Sport at Gateway School

School offers between 10 and 15 different sports over the course of the year. Competitive teams in major sports from Year 3. In recent years the school has enjoyed national success in football.

The Arts at Gateway School

Art, music, and drama are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. All pupils learn an instrument in class and about a third take extra-curricular instrument lessons from Year 3. Three choirs, orchestra and several instrument ensembles. Each pupil may participate in up to 10 different extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.
