School fundamentals

Highfield Prep School is an independent prep day and boarding school for boys and girls (40%/60%) between the ages of 2 and 11 years. Boarding from Year 5 for the very small number of pupils who board. All are full boarders. It is a Church of England school, open to all faiths and none. The school has a non-selective admissions policy. It is the prep school to Harrogate Ladies’ College, an all-through school to age 18, and is a member of The Allied Schools group. Highfield Prep School fees range from £4,675 (Rec) to £5,325 per term (2025/26). Full boarding fees are £11,940 per term. Fees include VAT and lunches.

Highfield Prep School has two classes per year and an average class size of 17 pupils.

Leavers' destinations

At the end of Year 6, about half of Highfield Prep girls move up to Harrogate Ladies College, the senior school. The remainder may move to local state school. Boys go on to local independents and grammar schools such as Ashville College, Aysgarth School, Grammar School at Leeds, St Peter’s School York, Ermysted’s Grammar, and Ripon Grammar School.

The Highfield Prep School curriculum

School curriculum is thematic throughout and is based on the National Curriculum. It also includes PSHE, reasoning, PSHE, French. The school offers each pupil between 5 and 10 different extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs.

The Arts at Highfield Prep School

Art, music and drama are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. All pupils learn an instrument in class and half take extra-curricular instrument lessons from Year 3. Three choirs, orchestra and several instrument ensembles. The school offers each pupil over 5 different extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.
