S. Anselm’s Preparatory School is an independent prep day and boarding school for boys and girls (60%/40%) between the ages of 3 and 13 years. Boarding from Year 3 for the 60% of pupils who board. 20% are full boarders and 80% are weekly or flexi boarders. It is a Church of England school, open to all faiths and none. The school has a non-selective admissions policy. It is a standalone prep school, and part of the Birkdale School group from Sep 2023. Day fees at S. Anselm’s Preparatory School range from £4,135 (Rec) to £7,815 per term (2023/24). Full boarding fees are £10,765 per term.

Leavers' destinations

Destinations for most S. Anselm’s Prep leavers are one of 10 or so boarding schools. A small number leave after Year 6. Oundle School, Uppingham School, and Shrewsbury School have traditionally been the most popular, though only for 30%-40% of leavers. The school closed it’s College for 13-16 years olds in summer 2022 and joined the Birkdale School group in Sep 2023.

The S. Anselm's Preparatory School curriculum

School curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and the ISEB Common Entrance curriculum with some additions and variations. It is thematic to Year 5, combining subjects such as maths, English, geography, history, RS, science into topics or projects. The curriculum also includes PSHE, engineering, French, Spanish, Latin. The school offers each pupil between 5 and 10 different extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs.

There are regular educational trips for all year groups, visiting speakers and residential trips from Year 3. Saturday morning school, optional for Years 3 to 5, is for the arts, sport, craft, and computing.

Specialist teachers for sport, art, music, drama, computing and languages throughout, and for all subjects from Year 6.

Sport at S. Anselm's Preparatory School

5 Games and 1 PE session per week. School offers over 20 different sports through the year, through both the curriculum and an extensive extra-curriculum. Representative teams in major sports from Year 3. In recent years the school has enjoyed national success in sailing.

The Arts at S. Anselm's Preparatory School

Art and music are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. Drama is part of the co-curriculum. All pupils learn an instrument in class and nearly all take extra-curricular instrument lessons from Year 3. Four choirs and several instrument ensembles. The school offers each pupil over 5 different extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.
