Vinehall School has a Schoolsmith Score® of 87, and is one of the top 100 prep and primary schools in the country. It is the only standalone prep in the Eastbourne and Hastings area, and also has the most varied music curriculum.

School fundamentals

Vinehall School is an independent prep day and boarding school for boys and girls (50%/50%) between the ages of 2 and 13 years. Boarding from Year 3 for the 10% of pupils who board. 40% are full boarders and 60% are weekly or flexi boarders. It is a Christian school, open to all faiths and none. The school has a non-selective admissions policy. It is a standalone prep school, not tied to any one senior school, and a member of the Repton Family of Schools. It is to merge with Marlborough House School by September 2025. Vinehall School fees range from £4,634 (Rec) to £8,986 per term (2025/26). Full boarding fees are £12,405 per term. Fees include VAT and lunches.

Vinehall School has one, sometimes two classes per year, and an average class size of 15 pupils.

Leavers' destinations

Destinations for most Year 8 Vinehall School leavers are one of 20 different day and boarding schools, typically Eastbourne College (30% of leavers), Cranbrook (15%), Battle Abbey School (10%) and Tonbridge School (10%). Bede’s School, Beneden and King’s Canterbury are perennial destinations too. 30% of pupils win awards and scholarships.

The Vinehall School curriculum

School curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and the ISEB Common Entrance curriculum with some additions and variations. It also includes Life Skills, French, Spanish, Latin. Topic-led humanities and science ‘Learning Journey’ to Year 2. Skills-based STEM in Years 5 and 6, with social history and natural history topics for Years 7 & 8 to complement the ISEB curriculum. The school offers each child a handful of extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs.

There are regular educational trips for all year groups, visiting speakers, outdoor learning programme to Year 2 and ‘Trips Week’ residentials for Years 5 to 8.

Specialist teaching

Specialist teachers for sport, music and languages throughout, and for all subjects from Year 4.

Sport at Vinehall School

Games and PE account for 15% of curriculum time. School offers over 15 different sports through the year, through both the curriculum and extra-curriculum. Competitive teams in major sports from Year 3. In recent years the school has enjoyed national success in athletics, gymnastics, swimming.

The Arts at Vinehall School

Art and music are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. Drama is part of the co-curriculum with some class lessons for older pupils. All pupils learn an instrument in class and nearly all take extra-curricular instrument lessons from Year 3. Four choirs, two orchestras and several instrument ensembles. There are some extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.

Wraparound care

Wraparound care from 7.30am to 6.00pm. There is also day boarding; ‘Vinehall 12’ (8.00am to 8.00pm), and occasional boarding; ‘Vinehall 24’ (8.00am to 8.00am). Minibus service.
