School fundamentals

Edge Grove School is an independent prep day school for boys and girls (60%/40%) between the ages of 2 and 13 years. It is a Church of England school, open to all faiths and none. The school has an academically selective admissions policy. It is a standalone prep school, not tied to any one senior school. Edge Grove School fees range from £6,310 (Rec) to £8,446 per term (2025/26). Fees include VAT and lunches.

Average class size

Edge Grove School has three classes per year to Year 6, two from Year 7, with each class split into two teaching groups from Year 5, and an average class size of 16 pupils.

Leavers' destinations

At the end of Year 6 half of Edge Grove School pupils leave for one of 20 schools. 80% of Year 6 leavers head to an independent school with St Albans High and Aldenham School accounting for 20% between them. St Albans School, Haberdashers’ Aske’s Girls’, St Columba’s College, and St Margaret’s Bushey Aldenham School together account for a further 20%. 10% go on to a partially selective state school; Parmiter’s taking half. 25%-30% of pupils win scholarships and awards. The 50% who stay on to Year 8 win places at one of 15 independent day and boarding schools. Mill Hill, St Albans, Merchant Taylors’ and Aldenham take 10% of leavers each. St Columba’s, Eton, and Harrow a further 5% each. 30%-35% win awards and scholarships.

The Edge Grove School curriculum

School curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and the ISEB Common Entrance curriculum with some additions and variations. It also includes PSHE, French. In Years 7 & 8 all pupils follow the Edge Grove Baccalaureate, a two year programme running alongside the ISEB and scholarship curricula to develop skills in leadership, life skills, outdoor learning, and service. Each pupil may participate in over 10 different extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs.

There are regular educational trips for all year groups, visiting speakers, Forest School to Year 2 and ‘Expedition Week’ for Years 3 to 8.

Specialist teaching

Specialist teachers for music, art, languages, and sport throughout, for maths and English from Year 3, and for all subjects from Year 5.

Sport at Edge Grove School

School offers over 20 different sports through the year, through both the curriculum and an extensive extra-curriculum. Competitive teams in major sports from Year 3. In recent years the school has enjoyed national success in basketball, football, swimming, table tennis.

The Arts at Edge Grove School

Art and music are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. Drama is part of the co-curriculum. All pupils learn an instrument in class and half take extra-curricular instrument lessons from Year 3. Three choirs, orchestra and several instrument ensembles. There are some extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.

Wraparound care from 7.45am to 6.00pm. Minibus service.
