The school specialises in helping children with specific learning difficulties. Pupils usually stay at Fairley House School for between one and three years, after which most return to mainstream education.
School curriculum is based on the National Curriculum. CReSTeD recognised dyslexia specialist provision school. The curriculum, timetable and teaching facilities are designed to meet specific needs in a holistic, co-ordinated manner. Speech therapy, occupational therapy and multi-sensory learning techniques are woven through and integrated into the curriculum. There are also one-to-one sessions.
All pupils have an Individual Education Plan. Throughout the school SpLD specialists, 10 speech & language therapists, 7 occupational therapists, and educational psychologists work in tandem with curriculum content specialists to facilitate effective learning. A significant number of teaching staff have nationally recognised qualifications in teaching dyslexic pupils.
There are regular educational trips for all year groups, and visiting speakers. Outdoor week long adventure residentials for Years 3 to 6.
School offers between 10 and 15 different sports over the course of the year.
Art, music and drama are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. All pupils learn an instrument in class and over half take extra-curricular instrument lessons from Year 3. The school offers each pupil between 5 and 10 different extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.
After school clubs extend the day to 4.30pm.
