The George Heriot's Junior School curriculum

School curriculum is based on the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence with some additions and variations. History and geography are taught through cross-curricular topics. The curriculum also includes PSHE, philosophy (Sapere Gold accreditation), French, Spanish, German. UNICEF Rights Respecting School Gold accreditation. Each pupil may participate in over 10 different extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs.

Specialist teachers for sport and music throughout, for art and drama from Primary 3, and for computing and languages from Primary 6.

Sport at George Heriot's Junior School

School offers over 20 different sports through the year, through both the curriculum and an extensive extra-curriculum. Competitive teams in major sports from Primary 3.

The Arts at George Heriot's Junior School

Art, music and drama are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. All pupils learn an instrument in class and half take extra-curricular instrument lessons from Primary 3. Three choirs, three orchestras and several instrument ensembles. Each pupil may participate in up to 10 different extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.

Wraparound care from 7.30am to 6.00pm, available for 50 weeks of the year.
