School fundamentals

Kingshott School is an independent prep day school for boys and girls (60%/40%) between the ages of 3 and 13 years. It is a Non-denominational Christian school, open to all faiths and none. The school has an academically selective admissions policy from Year 1. It is a standalone prep school, with a new senior division to age 16 from Sep 2024, and is a member of the Mill Hill Education Group. Kingshott School fees range from £4,480 (Rec) to £5,460 per term (2024/25). Fees exclude VAT but include lunches.

Kingshott School usually has three classes per year and an average class size of 15 pupils.

Leavers' destinations

Destinations for most of Year 8 Kingshott School leavers are one of 15 independent day and boarding schools. Up to half go to Haileybury, Bedford School, The Perse School, and St Christopher School Letchworth. Some leave in Year 6 for Hitchin Boys’ and Hitchin Girls’. 10-15% win awards and scholarships. From September 2024, pupils will also have the opportunity to stay on at Kingshott to age 16.

The Kingshott School curriculum

School curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and the ISEB Common Entrance curriculum with some additions and variations. It also includes STEAM, Young Enterprise, PSHCE, French, Spanish. In Years 7 and 8 the ‘Incrementum’ blends skills with the ISEB curriculum, requiring achievement in the non-core as well as core subjects, a reflective learning log, acquisition of a new skill, and community/charity work. The school offers each pupil between 5 and 10 different extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs.

There are regular educational trips for all year groups, visiting speakers, Forest School for pre-prep and residential trips from Year 3. The school has a Woodland Trust Green Tree Schools Gold Award.

Specialist teaching

Specialist teachers for sport, music, drama, and languages throughout, for art and DT from Year 3, and for all subjects from Year 5.

Sport at Kingshott School

School offers over 15 different sports through the year, through both the curriculum and extra-curriculum. Competitive teams in major sports from Year 3. In recent years the school has enjoyed national success in athletics.

The Arts at Kingshott School

Art, music and drama are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. All pupils learn an instrument in class and two-thirds take extra-curricular instrument lessons from Year 3. Four choirs, orchestra and 10 instrument ensembles. The school offers each pupil over 5 different extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.
