Nearly all Millfield Prep pupils move up to Millfield School at the end of Year 8.
School curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and the ISEB Common Entrance curriculum with some additions and variations. It also includes PSHEE, chess (Years 3 and 4), French, Spanish, Latin. Each pupil may participate in over 10 different extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs. In recent years the school has enjoyed national tournament success in chess.
Specialist teachers for music, art, languages, computing, drama and sport throughout, for DT from Year 3, and for most subjects from Year 6.
In Years 3 to 6 pupils are taught humanities, science and art through the skills-based International Primary Curriculum, before switching to the ISEB Common Entrance curriculum for all subjects from Year 7.
School is one of the 50 prep schools with the most extensive sports offers in the UK. Competitive teams in major sports from Year 3. In recent years the school has enjoyed national success in athletics, basketball, cricket, cross country, equestrian events, fencing, football, golf, hockey, netball, rounders, rugby 7s, sailing, squash, swimming, trampolining.
Art, music and drama are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. All pupils learn an instrument in class and over half take extra-curricular instrument lessons from Year 3. Five choirs, an orchestra, and 30 instrument ensembles. The school offers each pupil between 5 and 10 different extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.
Wraparound care from 8.00am to 6.00pm. Occasional boarding facility. Minibus service.
