School fundamentals

Millfield Prep & Pre-Prep is an independent prep day and boarding school for boys and girls (50%/50%) between the ages of 2 and 13 years. Boarding from Year 3 for the 30% of pupils who board. All are full boarders. The school has a non-selective admissions policy. It is the prep school to Millfield School, an all-through school to age 18. Millfield Prep & Pre-Prep fees range from £4,250 (Rec) to £9,325 per term (2025/26). Full boarding fees are £14,350 per term. Fees include VAT and lunches.

Average class size

Millfield Prep & Pre-Prep has three classes per year to Year 6 rising to six from Year 7, and an average class size of 14 pupils.

Leavers' destinations

Nearly all Millfield Prep pupils move up to Millfield School at the end of Year 8.

The Millfield Prep & Pre-Prep curriculum

School curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and the ISEB Common Entrance curriculum with some additions and variations. It also includes PSHEE, chess (Years 3 and 4), French, Spanish, Latin. In Years 3 to 6 pupils are taught humanities, science and art through the skills-based International Primary Curriculum, before switching to the ISEB Common Entrance curriculum for all subjects from Year 7. CReSTeD recognised dyslexia facility; a designated Learning Support Unit or Centre providing specialist tuition on a small group or individual basis, according to need. Each pupil may participate in over 10 different extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs. In recent years the school has enjoyed national tournament success in chess.

More on the curriculum

There are regular educational trips for all year groups, visiting speakers, Forest School to Year 2 and residential trips from Year 7. The pre-prep has Eco Schools Green Flag accreditation.

Specialist teaching

Specialist teachers for music, art, languages, computing, drama and sport throughout, for DT from Year 3, and for most subjects from Year 6.

Sport at Millfield Prep & Pre-Prep

School is one of the 50 prep schools with the most extensive sports offers in the UK. Competitive teams in major sports from Year 3. In recent years the school has enjoyed national success in athletics, basketball, cricket, cross country, equestrian events, fencing, football, golf, hockey, netball, rounders, rugby 7s, sailing, squash, swimming, trampolining.

The Arts at Millfield Prep & Pre-Prep

Art, music and drama are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. All pupils learn an instrument in class and two-thirds take extra-curricular instrument lessons from Year 3. Five choirs, an orchestra, and 30 instrument ensembles. There are some extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.

Wraparound care

Wraparound care from 8.00am to 6.00pm. Occasional boarding facility. Minibus service.
