The New College School curriculum

School curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and the ISEB Common Entrance curriculum with some additions and variations. It also includes PSHCEE, French, Latin, Greek. The school blends a subject based curriculum with skills based cross-curricular topics and projects throughout. There is topic based teaching in pre-prep. Humanities are taught as Great Civilisations in Years 3 and 4, and International Relations in Year 5. In Years 7 and 8, the skills-based Pre-Senior Baccalaureate is taught alongside the core ISEB curriculum subjects and/or senior school entrance curricula. Each pupil may participate in over 10 different extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs.

More on the curriculum

There are regular educational trips for all year groups, visiting speakers, ‘Wild Learning’ for pre-prep and residential trips from Year 5. The school also has Eco Schools Green Flag accreditation.

Specialist teaching

Specialist teachers for sport, music, languages, computing, art and drama throughout, for maths from Year 3, and for most subjects from Year 5.

Sport at New College School

School offers over 15 different sports through the year, through both the curriculum and extra-curriculum. Representative teams in major sports from Year 3.

The Arts at New College School

School educates the choristers of New College Choir. The choir was ranked 3rd best choir (with children) in the world by Gramophone Magazine in December 2010. Art and music are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. Drama is part of the co-curriculum. All pupils learn an instrument in class and nearly all take extra-curricular instrument lessons from Year 3. 2 choirs (in addition to the choristers), orchestra and several instrument ensembles. Each pupil may participate in up to 10 different extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.
