Stamford Junior School is an independent prep day and boarding school for boys and girls (50%/50%) between the ages of 2 and 11 years. Boarding from Year 3 for the very small number of pupils who board. 35% are full boarders and 65% are weekly or flexi boarders. It is a Christian school, open to all faiths and none. The school has a non-selective admissions policy. It is the junior division of Stamford School, an all-through school to age 18. Stamford Junior School fees range from £5,313 (Rec) to £6,783 per term (2025/26). Full boarding fees are £11,750 per term. Fees include VAT and lunches.

Stamford Junior School has two classes per year to Year 3, three from Year 4, and an average class size of 17 pupils.

Leavers' destinations

Most Junior School pupils move up to Stamford Senior School at the end of Year 6.

The Stamford Junior School curriculum

School curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and the ISEB curriculum with some additions and variations. It also includes PSHE, reasoning, CREEDS (Citizenship, Responsibility, Embracing the wider world, Environment, Democracy, Service), French, Spanish. Independent learning skills promoted through a cross-curricular half-termly topic approach, ‘ILIC’/’ATELIER’, for geography, history, science, DT, among other subjects. Each topic focuses on a particular learning habit. The school is one of the 50 prep schools with the most extensive academic and hobby extra-curricular programmes in the UK.

There are regular educational trips for all year groups, visiting speakers and residential trips from Year 4.

Specialist teaching

Specialist teachers for sport, music, and languages throughout, for art from year 3, and for DT and science from Year 4.

Sport at Stamford Junior School

School offers between 10 and 15 different sports over the course of the year. Competitive teams in major sports from Year 3. In recent years the school has enjoyed national success in cross country, gymnastics, swimming.

The Arts at Stamford Junior School

Art, music and drama are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. All pupils learn an instrument in class and three-quarters take extra-curricular instrument lessons from Year 3. Three choirs, an orchestra, and several instrument ensembles. The school is one of the top 50 UK prep schools for the breadth of its creative and performing arts extra-curriculum.

Wraparound care

Wraparound care from 8.00am to 6.00pm, or 8.00pm (with day-boarding option). Facility for occasional boarding.
