The Swanbourne House School curriculum

School curriculum is based on the National Curriculum with some additions and variations. It is a ‘creative curriculum’ with cross-curricular linking for humanities, arts and computing to Year 4. In Years 7 and 8 the Pre Senior Baccalaureate is a skills-based curriculum to complement discrete subject teaching for core subjects. The curriculum also includes PSHE, French, Latin. ‘Saturday Enrichment Programme’ for Years 5 to 8, has replaced Saturday lessons and broadens the curriculum with new outdoor, practical, artistic, enterprise, and language activities. The school offers each child a handful of extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs.

There are regular educational trips for all year groups, visiting speakers, Forest School for pre-prep and residential trips from Year 6. Leadership training and outdoor activities culminate in the Gordonstoun Challenge residential in Year 8.

Specialist teachers for sport, music, computing, and languages throughout, and for all subjects from Year 5.

Sport at Swanbourne House School

School offers over 15 different sports through the year, through both the curriculum and extra-curriculum. Competitive teams in major sports from Year 3. In recent years the school has enjoyed national success in skiing.

The Arts at Swanbourne House School

Art, music and drama are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. All pupils learn an instrument in class and half take extra-curricular instrument lessons from Year 3. Three choirs, orchestra and several instrument ensembles. There are some extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.
