The Queen's Lower School curriculum

School curriculum is based on the National Curriculum with some additions and variations. The Learning Challenge Curriculum encourages critical thinking through a cross-curricular approach for most subjects up to Year 4. The curriculum also includes PSHE, thinking skills, reasoning, French, Spanish, Mandarin. The school is an accredited ‘Confucius Classroom’. Each pupil may participate in over 10 different extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs.

Specialist teachers for sport, music, computing and languages throughout, for art and DT from Year 3, and for most subjects from Year 5.

Sport at The Queen's Lower School

School offers over 15 different sports through the year, through both the curriculum and extra-curriculum. Representative teams in major sports from Year 3.

The Arts at The Queen's Lower School

Art, music and drama are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. All pupils learn an instrument in class and two-thirds take extra-curricular instrument lessons from Year 3. Two choirs and two instrument ensembles. The choir has a strong track record in national choral competitions including Runner up in the BBC Songs of Praise Junior School Choir of the Year competition 2014/15. Each pupil may participate in up to 10 different extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.
