Dollar Academy, Prep & Junior School is an independent prep day and boarding school for boys and girls (50%/50%) between the ages of 5 and 12 years. Boarding from Year 5 for the very small number of pupils who board. 50% are full boarders and 50% are weekly or flexi boarders. The school has an academically selective admissions policy. It is the prep school to Dollar Academy, an all-through school to age 18. Dollar Academy, Prep & Junior School fees range from £4,368 (Rec) to £5,019 per term (2024/25). Full boarding fees range from £12,042 to £12,693 per term. Fees exclude VAT and lunches.

Dollar Academy, Prep & Junior School has two classes per year rising to four from P6, and an average class size of 19 pupils.

At the end of Primary 7, having spent two years in the main school building, most Junior School pupils move up to Dollar Academy.

The Dollar Academy, Prep & Junior School curriculum

School curriculum is based on the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence and also includes PSHE, STEM based cross-curricular lessons and projects, Life Skills (personal finance, careers, sustainability), French, Spanish, German. Each pupil may participate in over 10 different extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs.

There are regular educational trips for all year groups, visiting speakers and residential trips from Primary 6.

Specialist teaching

Specialist teachers for sport, music and art throughout, for languages from Primary 4, and for computing, science, EDT (engineering, design and technology), history, geography, and home economics from Primary 6.

Sport at Dollar Academy, Prep & Junior School

School offers over 15 different sports. Competitive teams in major sports from Primary 3. In recent years the school has enjoyed national success in golf.

The Arts at Dollar Academy, Prep & Junior School

Art and music are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. Drama is part of the co-curriculum. All pupils learn an instrument in class and half take extra-curricular instrument lessons from Primary 3. Three choirs and several instrument ensembles. Each pupil may participate in up to 10 different extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.

Wraparound care

The school day, with activities, runs from 8.30am to 5.30pm. A nearby independent facility offers before and after school care from 7.30am to 6.00pm. School buses and coaches.
