School fundamentals

Elmhurst School is an independent prep day school for boys (and girls from Sep 2024) between the ages of 3 and 11 years. The school has a non-selective admissions policy. It is a standalone prep school, not tied to any one senior school, and is a member of the Bellevue Education group. Elmhurst School fees range from £4,115 (Rec) to £5,113 per term (2025/26). Fees include VAT but exclude lunches.

Leavers' destinations

Destinations for 50% of Elmhurst School leavers are a local independent school. On average, 20% move on to a grammar school, 30% to a maintained school. The most popular destinations are Cedars School, Whitgift School, and Trinity School, who usually account for 40%-50% of leavers between them. The Elmhurst School curriculum

School curriculum is based on the National Curriculum with some additions and variations. It also includes PSHE, reasoning, Business Enterprise, French. The ‘Integrated Curriculum’ links English with other subjects according to a termly theme. Annual Maths Week and Science Week. The school offers each child a handful of extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs.

There are regular educational trips for all year groups, visiting speakers and a residential trip in Year 6. Off-site Forest School for all pupils, once a week for one term per year.

Specialist teaching

Specialist teachers for sport, music, languages, and computing throughout, for science from Year 3, and for English and maths from Year 4.

Sport at Elmhurst School

School offers between 10 and 15 different sports over the course of the year. Representative teams in major sports from Year 3.

The Arts at Elmhurst School

Art and music are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. Drama is part of the co-curriculum. All pupils learn an instrument in class and about one third take extra-curricular instrument lessons from Year 3. Three choirs, orchestra and one or two instrument ensembles. Each pupil may participate in up to 10 different extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.
