The Hazelwood School curriculum

School curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and the ISEB Common Entrance curriculum with some additions and variations. It also includes PSHE, philosophy, French, Spanish, Latin. The B.O.X is a facility to promote independent and creative learning using virtual reality, Lego construction, graphic design, interactive projection, robotics, and Google Jamboards. The school offers each pupil between 5 and 10 different extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs.

There are regular educational trips for all year groups, visiting speakers and residential trips from Year 3, with a sleepover in Year 2. Outdoor learning for all year groups including Forest School in pre-prep and ‘Weekend Outdoor Activities’.

Specialist teaching

Specialist teachers for sport, music and languages throughout, for computing from Year 1, and for all subjects from Year 6.

Sport at Hazelwood School

School offers over 15 different sports through the year, through both the curriculum and extra-curriculum. Competitive teams in major sports from Year 3. In recent years the school has enjoyed national success in athletics, gymnastics, hockey, netball, rugby, swimming.

The Arts at Hazelwood School

Art, music and drama are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. All pupils learn an instrument in class and up to half take extra-curricular instrument lessons from Year 3. Five choirs, orchestra and several instrument ensembles. Each pupil may participate in up to 10 different extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.
