Read Junior School is an independent prep day and boarding school for boys and girls (50%/50%) between the ages of 4 and 11 years. Boarding from Year 4 for the very small number of pupils who board. 80% are full boarders and 20% are weekly or flexi boarders. It is a Church of England school, open to all faiths and none. The school has a non-selective admissions policy. It is the prep school to Read School, an all-through school to age 18. Read Junior School fees range from £3,891 (Rec) to £5,327 per term (2025/26). Full boarding fees are £10,107 per term. Fees include VAT and lunches.

The Read Junior School curriculum

School curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and also includes PSHE, reasoning, French, Spanish. Cross-curricular teaching, particularly from Reception to Year 2. The school offers each pupil between 5 and 10 different extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs.

Sport at Read Junior School

School offers between 10 and 15 different sports over the course of the year. Representative teams in major sports from Year 3.

The Arts at Read Junior School

Art, music and drama are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. All pupils learn an instrument in class and some take extra-curricular instrument lessons. Choir and some instrument ensembles. There are some extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.

Wraparound care

Wraparound care from 7.45am to 6.00pm. Occasional boarding facility. A contractor operates an onsite nursery for children ages 2 to 4 for 51 weeks of the year.
