School fundamentals

St Andrew’s Prep is an independent prep day and boarding school for boys and girls (50%/50%) between the ages of 9 months and 13 years. Boarding from Year 3 for the 10% of pupils who board. 60% are full boarders and 40% are weekly or flexi boarders. It is a Church of England school, open to all faiths and none. The school has a non-selective admissions policy. It is the junior division of Eastbourne College, an all-through school to age 18. St Andrew’s Prep fees range from £4,240 (Rec) to £7,685 per term (2024/25). Full boarding fees are £10,925 per term. Fees exclude VAT and lunches.

Average class size

St Andrew’s Prep has one class per year in Pre-Prep, two in Prep, three in Years 7 and 8, and an average class size of 15 pupils.

Leavers' destinations

60%-70% of St Andrew’s Prep pupils move up to Eastbourne College, at the end of Year 8. The rest move up to one of 20 day and boarding schools. 50% win scholarships.

The St Andrew's Prep curriculum

School curriculum also includes PSHE, thinking skills, French, Spanish, Latin. In Years 7 to 8 the school follows the Bridge Curriculum, which extends to Year 9 at Eastbourne College. It blends the academic core of the National Curriculum and the ISEB Common Entrance Curriculum with a more skills and project-based humanities programme. The school offers each pupil between 5 and 10 different extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs.

There are regular educational trips for all year groups and visiting speakers. Forest School to Year 2, Beach School for Years 3 and 4. Activities-based Saturday Morning School for Years 4 upwards.

Specialist teaching

Specialist teachers for sport, music and languages throughout, for maths, computing, art and DT from Year 3, and for all subjects from Year 5.

Sport at St Andrew's Prep

School offers over 20 different sports through the year, through both the curriculum and an extensive extra-curriculum. Competitive teams in major sports from Year 3. In recent years the school has enjoyed national success in athletics, cricket, football, shooting.

The Arts at St Andrew's Prep

Art and music are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils, as is drama from Year 5. All pupils learn an instrument in class and half take extra-curricular instrument lessons from Year 3. Four choirs, orchestra and several instrument ensembles. Each pupil may participate in up to 10 different extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.

Wraparound care

Wraparound care from 7.30am to 7.00pm. Facility for occasional boarding (‘sleepovers’). Minibus service.
