The Hawthorns School is an independent prep day school for boys and girls (50%/50%) between the ages of 6 months and 13 years. It is a Christian school, open to all faiths and none. The school has a non-selective admissions policy. It is a standalone prep school and is a member of the Caterham School group. The Hawthorns School fees range from £4,575 (Rec) to £6,760 per term (2024/25). Fees exclude VAT but include lunches.

The Hawthorns School curriculum

School curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and the ISEB Common Entrance curriculum with some additions and variations. It also includes PSHEE, French, Spanish, Latin. In Years 7 and 8 the school blends a more skills based curriculum, The Hawthorns Compass Curriculum, with the core ISEB curriculum subjects (maths, English, science) and senior school entrance curricula. The school offers each child a handful of extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs. In recent years the school has enjoyed national tournament success in chess.

There are regular educational trips for all year groups, visiting speakers and residential trips from Year 6. Outdoor Education timetabled for all pupils, including Forest School for pre-prep.

Specialist teachers for sport, music and languages throughout, and for all subjects from Year 7.

Sport at The Hawthorns School

School offers over 15 different sports through the year, through both the curriculum and extra-curriculum. Competitive teams in major sports from Year 3. In recent years the school has enjoyed national success in football, sailing, swimming.

The Arts at The Hawthorns School

Art, drama, and music are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. All pupils learn an instrument in class and half take extra-curricular instrument lessons from Year 3. Six choirs, string orchestra and 7 instrument ensembles. The school offers each pupil over 5 different extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.

Wraparound care from 7.15am to 6.00pm. Minibus service.
