School fundamentals

Cothill House is an independent boarding-only prep school for boys between the ages of 7 and 13 years. The school will admit its first Year 3 pupils in Spetember 2024, and turn co-ed in September 2025. Originally termly boarding only, the school admitted its first day pupils and flexi boarders in Spetember 2023. It is a Church of England school, open to all faiths and none. The school has an academically selective admissions policy. It is a standalone prep school, not tied to any one senior school, and is a member of the Prep Schools Trust (Radley Schools Group). Cothill House fees are £7,775 per term (2024/25). Full boarding fees are £11,950 per term. Fees exclude VAT but include lunches.

Average class size

Cothill House has one class in Year 4 rising to three per year from Year 6, and an average class size of 14 pupils.

Leavers' destinations

Destinations for Cothill House leavers are one of 30 independent schools, mainly prestigious boarding schools. Eton College, Radley College, and Harrow School account for 40-50% of all leavers.

The Cothill House curriculum

School curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and the ISEB Common Entrance curriculum with some additions and variations. It also includes PSHE, general studies, Theme Weeks, French, Latin. The school offers each pupil between 5 and 10 different extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs.

There are regular educational trips for all year groups, visiting speakers and residential trips from Year 6. The Cothill Educational Trust owns the Château de Sauveterre in Toulouse. Year 7 pupils spend one term there, fully immersed in French.

Specialist teaching

Specialist teachers for music, art, drama, languages, DT, computing and sport throughout, and for all subjects from Year 5.

Sport at Cothill House

School offers over 15 different sports through the year, through both the curriculum and extra-curriculum. Competitive teams in major sports from Year 3. In recent years the school has enjoyed national success in athletics, football, skiing.

The Arts at Cothill House

Art and music are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. Drama is part of the co-curriculum. All pupils learn an instrument in class and three-quarters take extra-curricular instrument lessons. Two choirs, orchestra and several instrument ensembles. The school offers each pupil over 5 different extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.

Termly boarding, but…

In Years 4 and 5, pupils have a weekly boarding option before termly boarding from Year 6.
