School fundamentals

Papplewick School is an independent prep day and boarding school for boys between the ages of 6 and 13 years. Boarding from Year 3 for the 40% of pupils who board. 50% are full boarders and 50% are weekly or flexi boarders. It is a Church of England school, open to all faiths and none. The school has a non-selective admissions policy. It is a standalone prep school, not tied to any one senior school. Papplewick School fees range from £6,995 (Rec) to £9,795 per term (2024/25). Full boarding fees are £12,755 per term. Fees exclude VAT but include lunches.

Average class size

Papplewick School has one class in Year 2, two per year from Year 3, three from Year 6, and an average class size of 14 pupils.

Leavers' destinations

Destinations for Papplewick School leavers are mainly the traditional Public Schools. The school may have sent boys on to 30 different schools, but the most popular ones have historically been Eton (20% of leavers), Harrow (15%), Winchester (8%), Wellington (7%), Bradfield (7%) and Charterhouse (7%). 50% of boys win awards and scholarships.

The Papplewick School curriculum

School curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and the ISEB Common Entrance curriculum. It also includes PSHE, French, Latin, Greek. ‘Thursday Activities’ is a weekly timetabled afternoon to broaden the curriculum with new sporting and artistic experiences. The school offers each pupil between 5 and 10 different extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs.

There are regular educational trips for all year groups, visiting speakers and residential trips from Year 7. Outdoor pursuits programme includes Pioneers. Papplewick’s version of the Scouts, and PALS (Papplewick Activities and Leadership Scheme), the school’s version of the Adventure Service Challenge scheme.

Specialist teachers for sport, music, art, drama and languages throughout, and for most subjects from Year 5.

Sport at Papplewick School

School is one of the 50 prep schools with the most extensive sports offers in the UK. Competitive teams in major sports from Year 3. In recent years the school has enjoyed national success in basketball, football.

The Arts at Papplewick School

Art, music and drama are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. All pupils learn an instrument in class and three-quarters take extra-curricular instrument lessons from Year 3. Three choirs, orchestra and four instrument ensembles. The school offers each pupil over 5 different extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.

Wraparound care

Wraparound care from 8.00am to 6.15pm. Lessons finish at 4.30pm for Year 2, 5.15pm for Years 3 & 4, 6.15pm for Years 5 to 8. Facility for occasional boarding. Minibus service. All homework done at school, before taking the school bus home.
