School fundamentals

Wellington College Prep is an independent prep day and boarding school for boys and girls (60%/50%) between the ages of 3 and 13 years. Boarding from Year 3 for the 20% of pupils who board. 20% are full boarders and 80% are weekly or flexi boarders. It is a Church of England school, open to all faiths and none. The school has a non-selective admissions policy. It is the junior division of Wellington College, an all-through school to age 18. Wellington College Prep fees range from £5,020 (Rec) to £7,855 per term (2024/25). Full boarding fees are £10,555 per term. Fees exclude VAT but include lunches.

Average class size

Wellington College Prep has two classes per year to Year 2, three from Year 3, and an average class size of 14 pupils.

Leavers' destinations

70% to 80% of Wellington College Prep pupils move up to Wellington College. Other pupils move onto a wide variety of schools; Bradfield College, Marlborough College, Luckley House, Millfield, Lord Wandsworth College, and Radley being the most popular. On average, 44% of Year 8 leavers gain an award at their future school.

The Wellington College Prep curriculum

School uses the thematic International Primary Curriculum for science, history and geography to Year 4, and the bespoke ‘Curriculum 200’ for Years 5 to 8. Character education delivered through ‘Learning for Life+’. The curriculum also includes philosophy, French, Mandarin, Latin, Greek. The ‘Edleston Project’ and ‘Extended Projects’ in Years 5 to 8 aim to further develop pupils’ project, collaboration, and communication skills. The school offers each pupil between 5 and 10 different extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs.

More on the curriculum

The Golden Eagle Programme broadens the curriculum through extra-curricular clubs, outdoor pursuits, residentials, and Saturday activities. There are regular educational trips for all year groups, visiting speakers and residential trips from Year 3.

Specialist teaching

Specialist teachers for sport, music, art, DT, computing and languages throughout, and for most subjects from Year 5.

Sport at Wellington College Prep

School offers over 20 different sports through the year, through both the curriculum and an extensive extra-curriculum. Competitive teams in major sports from Year 3. In recent years the school has enjoyed national success in athletics, golf, hockey, judo, sailing.

The Arts at Wellington College Prep

Art, music, and drama are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. All pupils learn an instrument in class and three-quarters take extra-curricular instrument lessons from Year 3. Two choirs, orchestra and several instrument ensembles. Four or five musical theatre or drama productions per year. Each pupil may participate in up to 10 different extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.

Wraparound care from 7.45am to 6.00pm. Local minibus service.
